MBraun releases three videos introducing their OLED processing equipment
Jul 21st
MBraun released three nice videos showing their OLED processing equipment. The first one shows the UV-03 Cleaner – for the cleaning and activation of glass substrates or other optical surfaces using a simultaneous application of UV light and oxygen. This tool is used in both the coating and the encapsulation processes: The second video shows the Vacuum Hotplate – used for both basic research and manufacturing. The combination of vacuum and heat transfer allows curing at modest conditions, addressing the sensitivity of organic materials to elevated temperatures: read more

Black Eyed Pea Fergie goes on stage with an OLED outfit
Jun 29th
American hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas went on stage on Paris on three shows, wearing clothes embroidered with LEDs and OLED lighting panels from Philips. Fergie had a ‘leather cat woman’ outfit that has 75 white Lumiblade OLED panels. The panels were controlled remotely – and were synchronized to the music and lighting sequences. Philips’ OLED panels (Lumiblades) were the first to be released back in 2009. Philips’ panels come in different sizes, shapes and colors, not just white squares. Google working on a new Android 4 phone, to sport a Super AMOLED HD display?
Jun 28th
Reports start to emerge about an upcoming Google phone that will be the first one to use their Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) OS. Interestingly, these report say that the display will be a “Super AMOLED HD” (that’s the first time we heard that description). Some say that this large display will support 720p HD video (1280×720). This is a very high resolution for a mobile phone – perhaps there is some mix-up between this device and a new tablet from Google? Google Nexus S If Google are indeed working on a new phone or tablet device, surely more details will emerge, and we’ll keep you updated on that mysterious Super AMOLED HD display! read more

Imerj and Frog show an Android phone prototype with two 4" WVGA AMOLED displays
Jun 24th
Imerj and Frog has unveiled a new Android phone (or is it a mini-tablet) prototype that has two 4″ WVGA AMOLED displays. When closed it’s just like a regular phone (although quite thick), and when open you get a 6″ 800×960 tablet – although the displays are separated by a few millimeters. In the ‘open’ mode the device is rather thin – just 7mm. This is just a prototype – but the companies say it’s a few months from production. The specs of this unnamed prototype: a dual-core TI OMAP processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage (there will be more models, up to 128GB!), micro SD card, Android, 5Mp camera (720p video). Here’s a promotional video showing the new upcoming device: read more

Engadget says that N9 uses a Clear Black Display is "a sight to behold"
Jun 21st
Engadget posted a short hands-on review on the new Nokia N9 . They claim that the display uses Nokia’s Clear Black Display (CBD) technology – although Nokia’s own press release never mentioned that. CBD adds a special filter on top of the display which blocks light reflection – and helps the AMOLED perform better outdoors. In any case, Engadget say that the AMOLED display “is truly a sight to behold, with stunning viewing angles, a curved Gorilla Glass front, and some pretty excellent (for AMOLED) performance out in the sunlight… It’s easily one of this new phone’s great strengths”. Here’s Engadget’s video hands on: read more
