Samsung teases next Android announce, Galaxy S bound for T-Mobile next month?
Jun 9th
It’s no secret that Samsung wants to spread its high-end Galaxy S far and wide , but the exact details of its US attack have been a mystery thus far. TmoNews is reporting a “trusted source” as saying that the phone is pegged for a launch on T-Mobile on July 21, which matches up with some chatter we’ve been hearing as well. Though T-Mobile’s been supporting Android as aggressively as any carrier in the world, the company lacks a hero device — something akin to the Droid Incredible or EVO 4G — so it would stand to reason that Samsung’s best Android gear to date would be a good fit over there. Nothing wrong with a Super AMOLED display in a sub-10mm shell, now, is there? In the meantime, we’ve been invited to an event on June 29 to see “the next generation in Android smartphones” from Sammy, so we’re hoping for some more details then — and naturally, we’ll be on hand. Samsung Galaxy Tab revealed
Jun 3rd
If only there were more tablets in the world, you know? Samsung has heard the call, and truth be told they might have a nice crack at creating something desirable. The 7-inch Galaxy Tab (previously referred to as the S-Pad ), runs Android with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top (similar to the Galaxy S sitting next to it). According to the Tweets by Samsung Blog South Africa — an odd place indeed to make this sort of unveiling — it has a “high resolution” screen, and it’s supposed to be AMOLED if an earlier leak on the “S-Pad” is to be believed. That S-Pad info also mentioned a Samsung Apps store, which would make sense because as far as we know Google isn’t letting “official” Android Market-equipped, Google-blessed tablets out of the gate just yet. Pantech’s Sirius Sky smartphone does Android 2.1 on Snapdragon
Apr 15th
One gigahertz is becoming the bar of entry in the world of Android, and the upcoming Sirius Sky from Pantech meets that with its Snapdragon processor. It’s also helped along by an Android 2.1 install and a 3.7-inch 800 x 480 OLED screen that does look rather vivid in the above shot — presumably taken indoors. 500MB of storage is offered internally by the phone while expandable memory bumps things up to 32GB, upon which pictures from the five megapixel camera can be stored for later mockery. The phone is said to be hitting Asian markets “pretty soon” and, while there are rumors of a US release, they’re sounding a bit unsubstantiated at this point. LG’s Snapdragon-powered LU2300 Android handset gets official
Apr 13th
This one’s been floating around for a while now and just spotted in the wild last week , but LG has finally come clean with its new LU2300 Android handset, albeit in a somewhat roundabout way on its official UK blog. The biggest news is that LG has confirmed that the phone does indeed pack a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and Android 2.1, along with some other fairly impressive specs to match, including a 3.5-inch AMOLED capacitive display, a 5-megapixel camera, built-in WiFi, DivX support and a DMB TV tuner — that last feature of which likely indicates that this one won’t be available over here anytime soon. There’s also still no indication of a price or a firm release date, although it will apparently be available in Korea sometime this month or next. Samsung SHW-M120S to be first Android phone with Bluetooth 3.0?
Mar 9th
Samsung’s all about records: firsts , biggests , smallests , thinnests , you get the idea. Indeed, it was just a few weeks ago that the company managed to slip the very first Bluetooth 3.0 certified handset through — but these guys never rest, and it looks like they’re already prepping to follow up that feat by throwing Android into the mix. The Bluetooth SIG is showing certification for an SHW-M120S model that apparently features a 3.3-inch WVGA AMOLED display, 5 megapixel autofocus primary cam plus VGA secondary, WiFi, GPS, HSDPA, and — yes, you guessed it — a Bluetooth Core Version of 3.0, meaning you’ll likely be able to fling files around to your house full of Bluetooth 3.0-capable devices with the greatest of ease. The presence of a T-DMB tuner means this sucker is targeted squarely at the South Korean market, but we’ve no doubt Sammy plans on taking 3.0 global so that it can… you know, have the world’s most Bluetooth 3.0 devices. PuntoCellulare seems to have a pretty good shot of it, and it looks pretty much how you’d expect any self-respecting Samsung smartphone to look in 2010 — in other words, there’s nothing that screams “I can wirelessly transfer data short distances at heretofore-unknown speeds” just by looking at it, and that’s totally fine by us. Rumor is we’ll see this launch “in the next few weeks.” [Thanks, juanvaldez] Samsung SHW-M120S to be first Android phone with Bluetooth 3.0? originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 09 Mar 2010 15:41:00 EST. LG’s LU2300 set to challenge Samsung’s M100S for Korean Android dominance?
Mar 2nd
Eternal archrivals-to-the-death Samsung and LG have a tendency to match one another tit for tat in virtually every consumer electronic category, but for whatever reason, LG’s been far less interested in going for broke with Android over the past year — though a preoccupation with Windows Phone 7 Series is a solid guess at this point. Things may be changing, though, now that we’ve got news out of Telecoms Korea that they’re prepping a more brutal assault than the weakling GW620 could ever provide in the form of a so-called LU2300 for the domestic market (we’re assuming the actual thing will be a little more… well, “designed” than the snow-white mockup above). The site is playing up LG’s announcement that the phone will bundle a bunch of popular apps in ROM (awesome?) but the real news is the impressive spec sheet, which is said to include a Nexus One -like 1GHz Snapdragon and WVGA AMOLED display paired with Android 2.1 and a 5 megapixel cam capable of 720p video. It certainly sounds like it’s ready to give Samsung’s M100S a run for its money, but we’ll need to wait until its second quarter release to know for sure. HTC Desire: your Nexus One with Sense and Flash has arrived (video)
Feb 16th
The one thing you’ll never see on a stock Nexus One is a skinned interface like Sense or TouchWiz — they’re just not Google enough for a phone commissioned and sold directly by Mountain View. Thing is, Sense on Android has plenty of fans, and the mere thought of running it on something with as much oomph as a 1GHz Snapdragon brings tears to our eyes. The solution? The Desire, of course, featuring virtually all of the original Nexus One’s mojo with a little less direct Google support, a little more Sense, and a trackpad in place of the old trackball. The 3.7-inch AMOLED display carries over, but things get interesting on the software side: not only do you get HTC’s freshly-updated Sense with Friend Stream, you also get Flash 10.1 compatibility, which means you need every clock cycle of that 1GHz more than you ever thought you would. Unfortunately, North Americans, you’re getting screwed on this one for the time being — HTC is only announcing that it’ll be “broadly available” throughout Europe and Asia in the early part of the second quarter, while it’ll come to Australia via Telstra. Supersonic , care to save us? Update : Promo video is now after the break (thanks, O’Neill!), and our hands-on with the device at MWC can be found here .

LG’s 15-inch OLED TV on track for mid-year US release
Feb 14th
It’s a little sad when the world’s largest production OLED television measures just 15-inches diagonally but that’s the unfortunate state of the panel business at the moment. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of fans (including us) waiting for LG’s EL9500 OLED television to ship outside of South Korea. According to OLED-Display , LG hopes to bring the flat-panel wonder to the US sometime in the middle of 2010. Of course, it’ll still cost somewhere around $2,500 by the time it lands but hey, at least you’ll have the option for local retail and support. Motorola Motoroi coming to USA in March
Jan 19th
Well, isn’t this a novelty? The well practiced skill of lusting after Korean gear from afar won’t be necessary with Motorola’s latest Android 2.0 handset, as we’re hearing the Motoroi is headed to US shelves this March. Moto Korea head honcho Rick Wolochatiuk was on hand at the Korean launch to confirm that the new handset “will be launched in other markets around the world,” with the US specifically confirmed for a March release. The Motoroi , if you recall, is a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen spliced atop hardware good enough to record 720p video and output it via HDMI. An 8 megapixel camera with Xenon flash should ensure you get pretty decent photos too. But what are we doing telling you about it when there are perfectly good promo videos after the break? Go get ‘em! Continue reading Motorola Motoroi coming to USA in March Motorola Motoroi coming to USA in March originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 19 Jan 2010 07:52:00 EST.
