The OLED Handbook – in the top 1,000 Lulu.com best selling list
Jan 4th
I’m happy to announce that The OLED Handbook is the #980 best selling book on Lulu.com . Lulu is one of the most popular print-on-demand book publishers today. The Handbook is selling very well – it’s great to see how many companies from all sorts of industries and from over the world are interested in OLEDs. The Lulu sales rank takes into account the sales revenue and not just the number of books sold (i.e. the price of the book times number of sales). The OLED Handbook costs $149.99 for the printed edition and $97 for the digital (PDF) edition .

2011 year in review… and what will 2012 bring us?
Dec 28th
So, 2011 is almost over – and it was another exciting year for the OLED industry (here’s our list of most popular 2011 stories, by the way ). The biggest AMOLED player is still Samsung – and they enjoyed great success. During 2011 Samsung launched Super AMOLED Plus displays – which use a normal RGB matrix. They keep producing Super AMOLED ( Pentile ) displays too, and even reached HD resolution using these on some phones. Samsung’s own Galaxy S II phone (which uses a 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus display) was a huge success – and is in fact Samsung’s fastest selling phone ever . But Samsung is not just targeting phones and digital cameras. Larger AMOLEDs are coming too. Samsung is producing the 5″ AMOLED used in Sony’s PSP Vita, and Samsung’s own Galaxy Note phone has a 5.3″ Super AMOLED HD display. In September the company announced the largest Super AMOLED display yet – a 7.7″ 1280×800 panel that will be used in the upcoming Galaxy Tab 7.7 Android tablet (which will be released soon)

Lumiotec Hanger and Vanity OLED lamps hands on review
Nov 17th
Back in June, Lumiotec announced a couple of new OLED lamps: the Vanity desk lamp and the world’s cheapest OLED lamp, the $450 Hanger . Both use a single square OLED panel (we reviewed a previous generation panel back in September 2010 ). They were kind enough to send both lamps for a review, and after a few weeks of dealings with the Israeli customs, the lamps finally arrived and here’s my review. Both lamps use Lumiotec’s Version-2 square OLED panels (14.5 x 14.5 mm active area) which feature a color temperature of 4,900K and a maximum luminance of 2,700 cd/m2. The panels are not very efficient at 10.5 lm/W ( they use all-fluorscent OLEDs ). The Hanger consumes 12 W while the Vanity consumes 13 W (the extra Watt is because of the electric touch sensor, more on this below). Here’s our hands-on review of Lumiotec’s Version-1 panels . read more

APUS OLED watch review
Aug 8th
The nice guys over at APUS has kindly sent me an OLED watch for review. This is their Alpha Dark Force, which uses a blue PMOLED (they have other watches that use red or white PMOLEDs). APUS are selling the phones on-line in their web shop . The watches are also available in Amazon.com . The Alpha Dark Force, shown above costs $129 . First impressions When you first take it out of the box, you notice something strange – the display is off. Then you realize that that’s how it’s supposed to be – the watch does not display anything until you press a button. Then it shows you the time for a few seconds, and turns off again. APUS say that this is to preserve the battery, which will drain in a couple of days if the display will be always on

Osram ORBEOS OLED Light hands-on
Apr 12th
The kind folks over at Osram has sent us one of their new ORBEOS OLED Lighting panel for a review. The ORBEOS is a round (88mm diameter) glass panel that’s only 2.1mm (it weights 24g). The efficiency is 25lm/W. The brightness of the panels is 1,000cd/m² with power input of less than a watt. They should last for around 5,000 hours. The panels are available now via OSRAM’s site , they cost €240 each. They panels were actually released back in November 2009 , and OSRAM say they are happy with the sales in interest so far . OSRAM ORBEOS Read on to see my impressions of this OLED panel, and how it compares to Philips’ Lumiblade panels which were the first available OLED panels…

Sony to release a 104" OLED TV for $999
Apr 1st
EDIT: Update: April Fools 2010!
We just learned that Sony is set to announce their next-gen OLED TV, a 104″ OLED TV with Full-HD, 3D TV support. The TV also supports Wi-Fi and will display the latest news from OLED-Info when turned on. The FOOL-401 (Flexible Opaque Organic-LED) model will cost $999. Sony provided us with a photo of the new TV: Sony FOOL 401 OLED TV Sony’s OLED panel is actually transparent and flexible (it’s only 0.01mm thick!) and we can expect a rollable, transparent TV from them in around April 1st next year. We have talked to a Sony Rep that confirmed the TV. “We’re really excited to announce this TV today. OLEDs are so great, we’d be fools not to sell this TV. And for such a foolish price!. There were rumors that Sony are pulling out of OLEDs, but these are just foolish suggestions”

OLED-Info upgraded
Mar 14th
OLED-Info was upgraded today (if anyone is interested, we upgraded to Drupal 6.x from 5.8). Most of the changes are infrastructure related so you won’t notice much, but hopefully the site should be faster now, more stable and more secure. If you do find any bugs, glitches or you have any comments, please let us know !
