iSuppli – only 34,000 OLED TVs to sell on 2012, will grow to 2.1 million by 2015
Jan 11th
Earler today, LG said that they hope to sell 200,000-300,000 OLED TVs in 2012 , and up to 2 million in 2013. Market research company iSuppli is much less optimistic – they say that global OLED TV shipments in 2012 will amount to just 34,000 units. This will grow to 2.1 million in 2015. It’s not clear from iSuppli’s report, but it seems that they are only taking LG into account in their forecasts. Samsung will also offer its own 55″ OLED TV in 2012 , and today we heard that Panasonic are also developing their own OLED TV . read more

DisplaySearch: 2011 AMOLED revenue up 169% to $3.36 billion
Jan 6th
DisplaySearch estimates that AMOLED revenue in 2011 reached $3.36 billion on 90 million units. Revenue grew by 169% (from $1.25 in 2010) and unit shipments grew 97%. Revenue grew faster then units because the average smartphone display is getting larger. According to DisplaySearch, AMOLED share of the small/medium display market is now 12% (up 6% in 2010). These numbers are actually lower than what DisplaySearch estimated back in August 2011 . Back then they said unit shipments will be 128 million and revenue will reach $4 billion. read more

Nov 21st
Korean research firm DisplayBank says that the AMOLED market will grow from about $1.4 billion in 2010 to $12.8 billion in 2015. The growth will be led by small and medium AMOLED panels – and production technology will become more stable. Back in April, DisplaySearch predicted that AMOLED for mobile phones sales will reach around $10 billion in 2015 (that’s without the tablet, laptop, monitor and TV markets). iSupply meanwhile are much less optimistic – they estimate that the total AMOLED market will reach $3.6 billion in sales in 2015 . read more

LUX Research – OLED lighting will remain a small market, only $58 million in 2020
Jul 27th
LUX Research released a new OLED lighting report ( Finding the End of the Tunnel for OLED Lighting ) in which they say that OLED lighting will remain a small niche player in the future – in fact in 2020 worldwide revenues will only amount to $58 million. LUX Research says that while OLEDs will drop from $18 per lumen today to $0.71 per lumen in 2020, this will not be enough as the technology will still lag behind other display technologies, and this will limit adoption. LUX Research also forecasts that flexible OLEDs on plastic substrate will be cheaper than glass – and will cost $0.18 per lumens in 2020. They say that 63% of the OLED market in 2020 will be flexible OLEDs. read more
