Amulet releases a new "universal" driver for LCDs and OLED displays.

Amulet Technologies has released a new universal TFT/OLED display driver, the GEMexpress. The new driver is highly-integrated (six-layer PCBA) measuring 1.5"x3.0" and includes the display controller, a touch-panel decoder, and ARM7 processor and Amulet’s Graphical-OS-In-Silicon which manages the user-interface for the display. Amulet say that this new display driver can save a lot of time because it can interface to ‘virtually any display type’

WSJ – Apple’s Tablet will launch in April, will not have an OLED display

WSJ reports that Apple will soon begin production of their tablet, and will release it at late March or April 2010. The display will be a 10.1" LCD – they say that there will not be an OLED display after all .

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple plans to start the mass production of the tablet device in February.Oppenheimer analyst Yair Reiner says that Apple plans no 9.7 inch OLED option .

LG buys Kodak’s OLED unit

Kodak announced today that they have sold all their OLED related assets to a group of LG companies. Kodak will still have access to the technology to use in its own product

Thinking back to the end of 2008…

I just finished writing a post on OLEDs for the Holidays season and it got me thinking back to the end of 2008 . People often complain that OLEDs are always ’2-3′ years away. And it seems that at least with regard to OLED TVs – they are right.
