Fujitec shows OLED panels and manufacturing equipment
Jan 25th
Fujitec is showing cylindrical ( tubular) OLED lighting panels and OLED lighting processing equipment. The OLED panels are either blue, red or green, 70mm diameter and 80mm in length. The luminance is 100cd/m 2 for red or blue and 1000cd/m 2 for green – which also features 24lm/W efficacy level. The lifetime is just 100 hours currently. According to the company by middle 2011 they will be able to produce white-color panels (45mm diameter, 70mm in length) featuring 20lm/W at 1000 hours lifetime. The aim of their current project is to reach a white OLED at 30mm diameter and 200mm length, 30lm/W and 10,000 hours of lifetime. read more

NKK doubles the lifetime and increase the efficiency of their OLED switch
Sep 3rd
Remember NKK’s programmable OLED pushbutton switch ? Introducing in July 2008, it includes a 65K color OLED module capable of full-motion video. Today NKK announced that they have released a new version that doubles the lifetime of the OLED display (to 30,000 hours) and reduced the power consumption by 30%. Here’s NKK’s original funny ad for the OLED switch:

UDC announces new All-Phosphorescent OLED lighting technology
May 28th
Universal Display has more news for us at SID 2010. They have already announced the new light-blue light-blue phosphorescent OLED emitter system , suitable for both display and lighting applications. Today they are presenting an all-phosphorescent white OLED to address initial commercial niche white lighting applications UDC is showing a 15cm x 15cm OLED lighting panel using the company’s highly-efficient phosphorescent OLED technology and materials. UDC believes that this panel is the most energy-efficient performance, at this scale, reported to date. This panel emits a warm-white light with a color rendering index (CRI) of 87 and a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 3055K. It also has a luminous efficacy of 50 lumens per Watt using an optical outcoupling treatment with a modest 1.5x enhancement factor. With an operating lifetime of approximately 10,000 hours to 70% of an initial luminance of 1,000 cd/m 2 , this panel performance has the potential to meet the requirements for a number of initial commercial niche OLED lighting applications, and is an important step toward white OLED panel performance that achieves Energy Star targets. read more

Mitsubishi shows a new module very-large OLED display that can be used for advertisements and sport events
Oct 7th
Mitsubishi Electric is showing a new flexible OLED display (they call it the Diamond-Vision OLED) which is a modular display made from small OLED panels. Each panel is one ‘pixel’, and together they can be made into a large high-res image. There’s no limit to the size of this display – it can be used to cover buildings, trains, or even ‘entire-cities’ like Mitsubishi says..
