AUO to start mass-producing OLEDs again in 2011

AUO’s CEO says that they they will start producing small to medium-size OLEDs again in 2011. They expect to complete equipment installation by the end of 2010 on their 3.5G LTPS line that will be used for OLEDs. AUO 14-inch OLED prototype AUO were actually the first company to make AMOLEDs, back in 2006. Their AMOLEDs were used in BenQ-Siemens S88 , the first phone to have an AMOLED display. They since decided to stop making OLEDs. In January 2008, they resumed their OLED program , and now we hear that actual production will start next year. read more

Philips announced their plans to renovate their online store specifically created to cater to OLED lighting demands. Dietrich Bertram, head of Philip’s OLED operations in Aachen says: ‘All feedback has been good. No complaints. And no one has said there is no place for OLED lighting, when comparing with LED lamps for instance. But someone did say the price was too expensive.’ read more

LG Display’s CEO: we may start to produce 30" OLED TV panels in 2012

LG Display’s CEO Kwon Young-soo says that they are focusing on two technologies this year: 3D displays and OLEDs. The see OLEDs and Solar cells as the company’s future cash cows. Those businesses will start to contribute financially in 2012. Kwon Young-soo also said that "We may start to produce 30-inch OLED TV panels in 2012." LG 15-inch OLED TVs Back in November 2009 we heard that LG are planning to make 40,000 30" OLED panels in 201 2. It’s great to hear their CEO commit to OLED TVs by that time. Via FoxBusiness.com

New Cadilliac XTS concept car uses touch OLED displays

Cadillac has unveiled their latest concept car, the XTS Platinum concept, a replacement for the STS/DTC. The hybrid car uses an AWD powertrain, backup up by a 3.6L V-6 engine and an electric motor. The car can move under the electric power only. The Cadillac XTS uses OLEDs in place of both the gauges and the center stack controls and infotainment system. Rear seat passengers also get a pair of slim LED screens that rise out of the front seat backs. Via MotorTrend
