Plextronics and Cambrios started to market OLED lighting electrode material
Dec 14th
Back in April 2010 Plextronics and Cambrios started to develop a new electrode material for OLED panels . The two companies announced today that they have begun to co-market the new electrode aimed towards OLED lighting devices. The transparent conducting hole injection (TCHI) electrode is based on Plextronics ‘ Plexcore OC HIL material and Cambros’ ClearOhm material. This new electrode is a cheaper alternative to ITO. The development was funded in part by the DOE (which gave $1.2 million out of the total $1.8 million project cost). read more

Aneeva fabricate a fully ink-jet printed CNT circuit that drives OLED displays
Dec 1st
Aneeve Nanotechnologies, a startup company at UCLA’s on-campus technology incubator, managed to fabricate a new fully ink-jet printed carbon nanotube (CNT) circuit that is used to drive OLED displays. The company says that this is the first practical demonstration of carbon nanotube–based printed circuits for display backplane applications, and it shows significant performance advantages over traditional organic-based printed electronics. Aneeva says that this shows that CNT is a viable technology to compete with a-Si and metal-xide semiconductor for low-cost and scalable backplanes. read more

DisplayBank: the OLED market will grow to $12.8 billion by 2015
Nov 21st
Korean research firm DisplayBank says that the AMOLED market will grow from about $1.4 billion in 2010 to $12.8 billion in 2015. The growth will be led by small and medium AMOLED panels – and production technology will become more stable. OLED TV shipments, starting in 2012 , will also help the market exhibit fast growth rates. Back in April, DisplaySearch predicted that AMOLED for mobile phones sales will reach around $10 billion in 2015 (that’s without the tablet, laptop, monitor and TV markets). iSupply meanwhile are much less optimistic – they estimate that the total AMOLED market will reach $3.6 billion in sales in 2015 . read more
