Samsung’s Q3-bound tablet to boast 7-inch display, Android OS
Jul 30th
Slowly but surely, Samsung’s future as a tablet PC provider is taking shape. Details on the outfit’s foray into the world of the slate has been trickling out over the past few months , and shortly after learning that a so-called Galaxy Tab would be out and about in Q3, now we’re finding out two more critical details: screen size and operating system. According to the company, the Q3-bound device (assumed to be the aforesaid Galaxy Tab) will boast a smaller-than-average 7-inch screen, and rather than humming along on Bada or Windows 7, Google’s Android will be at the helm. We’re being forced to wait for further information, but given the proximity to Q3, all should be crystal clear in the not-too-distant future. Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has been rooted, all is right with the world
Jul 10th
Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10 has been out and about for some time, facing off against the competition and predictably getting ripped to shreds . Now it has reached the next natural step of its evolution: receiving the root treatment by a bloke at xda-developers . User Bin4ry over there has posted step-by-step instructions on how to locate your device ID, re-flash your phone, and then enable superuser abilities. It all looks particularly straightforward, as far as these things go, and so if you’re looking for a bit more control this weekend don’t hesitate to click on through. Nexus One sees red, nearly doubles battery life? (video)
Jul 4th
These five Nexus One smartphones may seem to have defects, but there’s actually nothing wrong with their AMOLED screens — the funky colors are an attempt to improve battery life by turning off unnecessary sub-pixel LEDs. Hooking up his handset to an industrial power meter, Android engineer Jeff Sharkey discovered a blood-red screen drew 42 percent less current than full color — the least of any combination by far — purportedly doubling the effective battery life of the phone. While you’re probably not going to be able to test the requisite software patch for yourself unless you’re mildly familiar with Google code, you’ll find a video of the crimson wonder after the break to fuel your dreams of a eyestrain-free astronomy cheat sheet… and Android bullfighting, of course. Yepp, Samsung’s working on another PMP — but this one’s a four-inch Android with AMOLED
Jun 4th
Samsung’s interstellar voyage with Android has just begun, it seems — after a host of smartphones and a freshly announced tablet , it looks like the OS will cameo in a new Yepp PMP. The YP-MB2 was recently spotted in the databases of the Bluetooth SIG, where it’s described as “a multi functional Mobile Internet Device” with GPS, Wi-Fi, TouchWiz 3.0 and a huge four-inch AMOLED touchscreen. Digging deeper into the technical documents, we can see it’s got Android as well — oh, and Bluetooth, of course. As the geographic availability section reads “Asia” and the unit’s “MB” designation typically means South Korea’s T-DMB , we don’t expect to ever see it stateside, but when the device surfaces next you can probably expect it to look like a larger one of these . HTC Incredible caught on video rocking Snapdragon, Android 2.1 with Sense UI, and Verizon bands
Feb 7th
The verdict’s still out on whether or not it’ll live up to its namesake, but the HTC Incredible is now officially out in the wild and surfing on Verizon’s frequencies . Pocketnow managed to obtain a few details along with a batch of leaked photos and video, so here’s what we’re being told: Snapdragon processor, Android 2.1 with Sense UI, 256MB of RAM, optical mouse pointer, and dual LED flash for the camera. The screen’s about 3.5 or 3.7 inches, WVGA resolution and possibly AMOLED. Traditionally shaky video reveal after the break.
