SMD to build an OLED fab in Tianjin, China?

There are reports that Samsung Mobile Displays plans to build a new AMOLED fab in Tianjin, China. SMD already has a subsidiary in Tianjin (apparently making LCD displays). Investment and schedule hasn’t been finalized yet. read more

Winstar shows new 128×64 PMOLED modules, OLEDs for automobiles

Winstar is showing new graphic monochrome (yellow) PMOLED displays for automobiles. We do not have a lot of information yet (we’re not sure if these are in production at all) besides this photo: The company has also released 3 new monochrome yellow 128×64 PMOLED modules. Two modules are 2.4″ in size (but one is with a bezel, and the other is without). The third module is 2.7″ in size. All three modules have built-in SSD1305 driver IC and offer paraller (6800 or 8080), Serial SPI and I2C interfaces. read more

China’s Skyworth to research OLED displays

China’s Skyworth Group (makers of CRT and LCD TVs) has set up a new R&D center for OLED displays together with the South China University of Technology (SCUT). The new center will be located in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, south China. via TradingMarkets.com

Razer shows a prototype laptop with an OLED keyboard

Razer has a nice small laptop on display at CES, with an OLED keyboard . The idea is similar to Art Lebedev’s OLED Optimus (which interestingly is still available for $2400 ) – each key is a small OLED:

Sony’s TX100V OLED digital camera up for pre-order for $379

Sony announced the TX100V OLED camera a few days ago, and you can already pre-order it over at Amazon.com – for $379.99 . The TX100V is Sony’s flagship compact camera with a 3.5″ touch OLED display, 16.2mp sensor and Full-HD videos.

Samsung to exhibit flexible and transparent AMOLEDs at CES 2011

Samsung announced that it will be showing flexible and transparent OLED displays during CES , but it seems that those displays aren’t new. The first display is a 4.5″ WVGA flexible AMOLED. This seems to be the same display shown at the FPD 2010 exhibition (November 2010) : The second display is a 19″ qFHD transparent (up to 30%) AMOLED for TVs and monitors, and also a 14″ qFHD transparent AMOLED for notebooks. This also seems to be the same displays shown at the FPD exhibition .

Another week, new phone rumors. This time we hear that the Nokia N9 will be a fast (190M polygons/s – the N8 supports only 35M/s) MeeGo device with 12mp camera, 1GB ROM, 190M polygons/s. And the display? a 4.2″ AMOLED – with no information on resolution and whether CBD or not. Back in August we heard that the N9 will have a 4″ Super-AMOLED display , but things might have changed since then… read more

LG Display and QD Vision to jointly develop QLED displays

QD Vision and LG display announced a joint-development agreement – to create highly-efficient, high-performance active matrix displays based on electroluminescent quantum dot LED (QLEDs). According to QD Vision, such displays will use less power than other technologies (including OLEDs) and have brighter and richer colors. They will also be cheaper to produce. QD Vision says that QLEDs have several advantages: pure color, low-power consumption, low-cost manufacturing and are ultrathin, transparent and flexible. Samsung Stealth V outed, to have a 4.3" AMOLED display?

According to documents from the DLNA organization, there’s a new Samsung phone called the Stealth-V (SCH-i510) that will have a 4.3″ AMOLED display (WVGA). Other specs include Android v2.2, a 8mp camera and DLNA of course, over Wi-Fi. A couple of weeks ago we reported about a new Samsung flagship Android phone due in February 2011. The new phone is said to have a new 4.3″ Super-AMOLED 2 display. It might be that the Stealth-V is this mystery phone indeed… read more
