Blackbody to show new OLED lamps designs

Blackbody will show new OLED lamp designs at the NOW! Maison & Objet Fair (September 3rd to 7th, 2010). All of the new lamps were designed by C+B Lefebvre. Those lamps are available to buy, but probably cost quite a bit . Here are my two favorites: The first lamp (shown above) is called 6″O” with an active area of 540cm2, color temperature of 3200 K°, 26W power consumption and it weights 5.5Kg : “Providing both linear and surface illumination, this light bridge creates an enlightened area free of shadows and glare. This virtually tamed lighting offers both direct illumination whilst simultaneously bathing the surrounding area in a halo of soft light. read more

The Samsung Moment is very popular

The Samsung Moment is a very popular phone – at least over at Amazon.com , where it’s currently #4 best selling smartphone . It’s more popular than the Palm Pre (also on Spring, and costs the same, $79.99). The most popular smartphones, by the way, are two BlackBerrys ( Bold 9700 and Curve 8900 ), and Motorola’s Droid .

OLED shipments rise sharply in Q3 2009, revenue over $250 million

DisplaySerach has released their latest Quarterly OLED Shipment and Forecast Report . They say that OLED revenues have reached $252 million in Q3 2009, up 31% Q/Q

LG announces a 2.6mm thick LED LCD TV

LG has announced a new LED LCD TV, that’s only 2.6mm thick. That’s even thinner than Sony’s XEL-1 OLED TV ! The new TV is 42", weights only 4Kg (!) and has a 120Hz refresh rate

Will Cowon release a new PMP with an AMOLED?

There are rumors that Cowon are set to release a new player, the J3. It will come with 2/4/8GB, a DMB tuner and Wi-Fi. There aren’t any more details yet, beside the AMOLED display

Showa Denko signs an OLED white lighting license agreement with UDC

Showa Denko announced that it has signed a license agreement for OLED Lighting technology with Universal Display . Showa Denko will be able to integrate Universal Display’s proprietary UniversalPHOLED phosphorescent and other OLED technologies into Showa Denko’s white OLED lighting products fabricated by solution-processing methods. Under the agreement, UDC will get license fees and running royalties.

LG creates a new company to handle all OLED patents and technologies

LG Group has decided to create a new company that will handle all OLED patents and technology. It will be financed by LG Electronics, LG Display and LG Chem. The company will be created soon (hopefully before the end of 2009), and will probably be called LG OLED.

PolyPhotonix demos an OLED dress

UK’s PolyPhotonix is showing an ‘OLED Dress’, designed by Gareth Pugh. The dress was exhibited at the launch of the UK’s "Plastic Electronics Strategy’ (the  $32 million investment in plastic-electronics announced in July )
