Samsung Mobile Display is considering a new OLED line in Tangjeong (South-Chungcheong Province, Korea). The new line will be using 5.5th-generation technology for 30" OLED TVs . Total investment will be 1.5 trillion Won ($1.3 billion), although SMD says that the investment size will be decided by demand from clients such Samsung Electronics, Sony and Sharp

Universal Display Corporation (UDC) announced their results for 3Q 2009. Revenue were $5.1M, out of which $1.6M came from chemical revenue, license and royalty payments and commercialization assistance

Korean companies to invest in AMOLED and develop large-size vapor deposition equipment

Several Korean firms (including Samsung and LG) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to join hands in developing equipment to manufacture large-size AMOLED displays (i.e. OLED TV panels) . Korea wants to get a top-position in OLED displays and lighting, and the firms committed to further investments in these fields. Under the MOU, the companies (Samsung Mobile Displays, LG Display and other companies) will co-develop and mass-produce vapor deposition equipment for AMOLED panel production

Polar OLED: New material company, spun-off the University of Hull

Polar OLED is a new company, spun off from the University of Hull in the UK. Polar is working on "liquid crystal based polymer OLED materials", and are currently shipping sample materials for research. Polar say that their materials will be far more cost effective to manufacture than what’s available today

UDC Awarded U.S. Army SBIR Contract Extension for Flexible OLED Displays Built on Metal Foil

Universal Display Corporation has been awarded a 334K$ extension to a US army Small-Business-Innovation-Research (SBIR) phase III contract. UDC will continue to work on their flexible OLED display technology, and will deliver new prototype flexible displays built on metal foil (using amorphhous-silicon backplanes)

Hyundai research: OLED sales to reach 17B$ in 2015

A researcher at Seoul-based Hyundai Security is saying that the global OLED market will reach 8B$ in 2012 and 17B$ in 2015. This means a 13-fold growth in six years, which is actually a faster growth rate than LCDs (which was 10-fold in 10 years). They say that the vapor-deposition technology is ‘quickly developing’ which means that soon they’ll be able to make large AMOLED panels
