New OLEDs summit in Beijing (January 2012)

Demand-LED is hosting a new international OLED summit in Beijing China (the China Internatioanl OLEDs Summit 2012 ) – in January 2012. The conference will include speakers from OLEDs manufacturing companies, end-users, organic material suppliers and professional organizations. The organizers say that this conference “reflects the Chinese government’s OLED policies, especially on display and lighting, in the coming years, and will enable a thorough understanding of the Chinese market and the latest research achievements”. read more

A student visited New Zealand’s Massey University and they were kind enough to show him their OLED lab equipment – and help him create a simple OLED device using Screen Printing. He shot the whole thing in video, which is rather cool. The video is about 10 minutes long (and is mostly run in fast forward… this is a long process):

Sony Cyber-shot TX55

The TX55 is a compact camera that offers 16.2mp sensor, 5X optical zoom, a 3.3″ touch OLED display and 1080p video. The camera also features 42.9mp panoramas, optical image stabilization 3D image capture, low noise levels and a new digital zoom technology that Sony calls Pixel Super Resolution – that can provide 2X digital zoom (i.e. 10X combined with the optics) and still capture 16.2mp images at full quality. MBraun releases three videos introducing their OLED processing equipment

MBraun released three nice videos showing their OLED processing equipment. The first one shows the UV-03 Cleaner – for the cleaning and activation of glass substrates or other optical surfaces using a simultaneous application of UV light and oxygen. This tool is used in both the coating and the encapsulation processes: The second video shows the Vacuum Hotplate – used for both basic research and manufacturing. Olympus’s AMOLED PEN E-P3 camera is up for pre-order for $899

Olympus’ PEN E-P3 can now be pre-ordered from Amazon.com (for $899) . You can also pre-order it in the UK for £799.99 . The E-P3 is an interchangeable lens type digital camera with the world’s faster auto-focus, a new 12.3mp Live MOS Sensor, Full-HD movie encoding and a 3″ VGA OLED touch display.

Nippon Seiki unveil new 0.8" and 2.7" energy-saving monochrome PMOLEDs

Nippon Seiki announced a new line-up of 0.8″ and 2.7″ monochrome energy efficient PMOLED modules. Those new panels offer around 50% energy saving compared to Nippon Seiki’s older modules. The green panels have been available since 2010, but now the company added red, white, blue and amber options. 0.8-inch PMOLEDs The 2.7″ panel offers 64×256 resolution (0.26×0.26mm pixel pitch) and 90 nits brightness. The active area is 16.6×66.5 mm. read more

Nippon Seiki unveil new 0.8" and 2.7" energy-saving monochrome PMOLEDs
OSD announces new PMOLED displays (3.12" 256×64 and 16×2/20×2 characters)

OSD Displays announced two new PMOLED displays. The first is the OSD25664P0909-10, a 3.12″ 256×64 monochrome display available in blue, white or yellow. This display offers at least 40,000 hours lifetime (D50). Here’s a nice video OSD sent us showing these new displays: The second PMOLED display announced is a character display. There are two version, 16×2 and 20×2, available in five colors (Green, Amber, White, Blue and Red). They offer 10,000:1 contrast and a wide viewing angle. OSD can embed English, Japanese, European and Russian characters and also offers these with a PCB option similar to that of Standard Monochrome LCD if needed. The operating temperature is -40C to 70C (storage temperature -40C to 85C). Samples of these displays are already shipping.

New updated design for OLED-Info

We’re happy to announce that we updated our site’s design (which has been live since November 2008 ). We have added a top-menu that gives easy access to most of the content on our site, and also updated some inner pages (for example the companies page ). We will add some more small graphic tweaks in the coming weeks. We hope that the site will be easier to use now. Please comment and tell us if you like this new look, or whether you found some errors in the new site…

A video of a Super AMOLED display under a 100X microscope

Here’s a nice video showing Samsung’s Super AMOLED display under a 100X microscope (the device is a Samsung Focus phone ): You can see that this display uses a PenTile subpixel matrix (in which the (smaller) green subpixel is shared between two pixels). Samsung’s upcoming Super AMOLED Plus no longer uses a PenTile.
