New OLED gadget: Moto Z2 Play

Motorola’s Moto Z2 Play is an Android smartphone with a 5.5″ Full-HD Super AMOLED display, 2.2Ghz Octa-Core CPU , 3/4 GB of RAM, 32/64GB of storage, a microSD slot and a 12MP camera. The Moto Z2 Play was launched in June 2017 and will ship soon.

OLEDON developed a 0.38um shadow mask technology that enables 2,250 PPI

OLEDON announced that it has developed a plane-source evaporation shadow mask process that can achieve a shadow distance of 0.38um – which can enable OLED display resolution to reach 2,250 PPI. The company says it technology will be able to achieve 3,300 PPI in the future. OLEDON is not alone in the development of plane-source evaporation technology. In November 2016 Sunic Systems announced that it developed a similar AMOLED production process – that can also achieve 2,250 PPI. Pioneer and Konica Minolta officially establish their OLED lighting JV

In March 2017 Konica Minolta and Pioneer announced that the two companies are set to merge their OLED business unit, and on June 1st the new 50:50 joint venture, called Konica Minolta Pioneer OLED , was officially established. Konica Minolta says that the new company will take charge of all business and product planning, product development, production technology development and marketing functions of both companies’ OLED lighting business to drive its initiatives. New OLED gadget: Loewe Bild 4

Loewe’s entry-level OLED TV for 2017, the bild 4 is a 55″ 4K OLED TV that uses LG’s WRGB panels. The bild 4 is available in 55-inch only (bild 4.55) and features support for three HDR formats ((Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG), a 80W soundbar and a smart TV platform. The bild4.55 will ship in Europe in June 2017 for €2,990.

Kopin and Goertek unveil an OLED microdisplay based VR HMD reference design

In January 2017 Kopin unveiled its first OLED microdisplay, the 1-inch 120 Hz 2k x 2k Lightning panel , and in March 2017 Kopin announced that it is developing a VR headset in collaboration with Goertek – a mobile VR headset that uses the Lightning OLED microdisplay. The two companies now unveiled their VR headset reference design, called the Elf VR. The Elf VR utilizes Kopin’s Lightning OLED microdisplay to create a headset that is lighter, more efficient and with a higher image quality compared to the current VR headsets based on smartphone-sized OLEDs. The Elf VR adopts an advanced optical solution with a compact Multi-Lens design. The reference design supports two novel optics solutions – 70 degrees FOV for film-like beauty or 100 degrees FOV for deep immersion. Yeolight developed new amber OLED lighting and automotive OLED rearlights

Yeolight Technology (which was spun-off Visionox in May 2015) developed a new bright Amber OLED panel. The panel’s size is 85×85 mm (active area 76.5×76.5 mm) and its color temperature is 2000K-2600K. The efficiency is >70 lm/W at 2,000 cd/m2 brightness. The lifetime is over 20,000 hours. This new panel is still a prototype – but Yeolight says it can already be mass produced at the company’s 2.5-Gen production line.
